Breast Lift London
Natural breast restoration combining Italian artistry with British medical excellence. Over 30 years of international experience creating beautifully lifted, youthful results.
Breast Lift - Natural Restoration with Italian Artistry
Restoring Youthful Contour and Confidence
A breast lift, medically known as mastopexy, is a transformative procedure designed to restore a more youthful, elevated breast contour by addressing sagging and loss of firmness. Whether due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, ageing, or simply genetics, many women find that their breasts lose their once-youthful position and shape over time.Dr. Maurizio Persico brings over 30 years of international expertise to every breast lift procedure, combining his Italian aesthetic sensibility with British medical excellence. His approach focuses on creating naturally beautiful results that restore confidence whilst preserving the authentic character of your body.
Unlike high-volume clinics where you may never meet your surgeon until the day of surgery, Dr. Persico personally guides you through every stage of your journey—from initial consultation through to long-term follow-up care.
Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Lift?
You may be an ideal candidate for breast lift surgery if you:
- Are in good overall physical and mental health
- Have breasts that sag or have lost firmness and volume
- Have nipples that point downward or sit below the breast crease
- Experience stretched skin and enlarged areolas
- Have one breast that sits noticeably lower than the other
- Feel your breasts lack the shape and projection they once had
- Have completed your family or are not planning pregnancy soon
- Maintain a stable weight
- Are a non-smoker or willing to stop smoking before and after surgery
- Have realistic expectations about the outcomes
What Is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess, stretched skin and reshapes the remaining breast tissue to create a more lifted, youthful contour. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, more aesthetically pleasing location, and if necessary, enlarged areolas can be reduced in size. The fundamental goal is not to significantly change breast size (although some volume loss is natural due to tissue removal and reshaping), but rather to restore the breasts to a more elevated, firm, and youthful position.
Understanding Breast Ptosis
Breast sagging is medically termed "ptosis" and is classified into degrees:Mild Ptosis: The nipple sits at or just below the inframammary fold (breast crease), with minimal sagging.
Moderate Ptosis: The nipple falls 1-3cm below the inframammary fold, with noticeable drooping and loss of upper pole fullness.
Severe Ptosis: The nipple falls more than 3cm below the fold, often pointing downward, with the majority of breast tissue hanging below the crease.
Dr. Persico will assess your degree of ptosis during consultation to recommend the most appropriate surgical technique for your individual anatomy.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect?
Dr. Persico's philosophy centres on creating results that look naturally beautiful—as if your breasts have been gently restored to their most attractive, youthful state rather than surgically altered.
Natural, Proportionate Results
The hallmark of an excellent breast lift is subtlety. Your results should:
- Restore a youthful, perky contour
- Position nipples at an aesthetically ideal height
- Create natural upper pole fullness
- Maintain harmony with your body proportions
- Allow breasts to move naturally
- Avoid an overly "operated" appearance
- Preserve or enhance cleavage definition
Long-Term Considerations
Breast lift results are long-lasting, but it's important to understand that your breasts will continue to age naturally. Factors that influence longevity include:
- Skin quality and elasticity
- Breast size (larger breasts are subject to more gravitational force)
- Lifestyle factors (smoking, sun exposure, weight fluctuations)
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding after surgery
- Natural ageing processes
What Types of Breast Lift Are Available?
The type of breast lift technique Dr. Persico recommends depends on your degree of ptosis, breast size, skin quality, and aesthetic goals. Each technique varies in the extent of tissue reshaping and resulting scar pattern.
Crescent Lift (Minimal Lift)
Best for: Very mild ptosis, minimal sagging, often combined with breast augmentationTechnique: A small crescent-shaped incision is made along the upper half of the areola border.
Advantages:
- Minimal scarring (easily concealed at areola edge)
- Quick procedure and recovery
- Suitable when only slight elevation is needed
- Limited lifting capacity
- Not suitable for moderate to severe ptosis
- Results less dramatic than other techniques
Periareolar Lift (Donut Lift)
Best for: Mild to moderate ptosis, when you wish to reduce areola size, patients with good skin elasticityTechnique: A circular incision is made around the entire circumference of the areola, and excess skin is removed in a donut-shaped pattern.
Advantages:
- Scars limited to the areola border
- Can effectively reduce enlarged areolas
- Moderate lifting capability
- Suitable for smaller breast sizes
- Limited reshaping of breast tissue
- May flatten breast contour slightly
- Not ideal for severe ptosis or large breasts
Vertical Lift (Lollipop Lift)
Best for: Moderate ptosis, patients who want significant reshaping without extensive scarringTechnique: Incisions are made around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease, creating a "lollipop" pattern. This allows for substantial tissue reshaping and skin removal.
Advantages:
- Significant lifting and reshaping capability
- Better projection than periareolar lift
- Avoids horizontal scar along breast crease
- Suitable for most breast sizes
- Excellent long-term shape retention
- Vertical scar on the breast (though usually fades well)
- Slightly longer procedure than periareolar
- Not ideal for very severe ptosis or extremely large breasts
Anchor Lift (Inverted-T Lift)
Best for: Moderate to severe ptosis, large breasts, significant asymmetry, cases requiring maximum tissue reshapingTechnique: Incisions are made around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and horizontally along the inframammary fold, creating an anchor or inverted-T pattern. This provides the most extensive access for tissue removal and reshaping.
Advantages:
- Maximum lifting and reshaping capability
- Can address severe ptosis effectively
- Ideal for breast reduction combined with lift
- Best long-term results for large, heavy breasts
- Can correct significant asymmetry
- Most extensive scarring
- Longer surgical time
- Slightly extended recovery
Dr. Persico will discuss which technique best suits your anatomy and goals during your consultation. His extensive experience across all breast lift techniques ensures you'll receive honest, expert guidance about what will deliver the best long-term results.
Where Will the Incision Be Placed?
The location and extent of incisions depend on the breast lift technique selected:
Areola Border Incisions
All breast lift techniques involve incisions around the areola border, which:- Allow for nipple repositioning
- Enable areola reduction if desired
- Heal very well due to the natural colour transition between areola and breast skin
- Become barely visible with proper healing and care
Vertical Incisions
Vertical incisions run from the bottom of the areola straight down to the breast crease. These:- Provide access for tissue reshaping
- Allow removal of excess skin from the lower breast
- Create natural, conical breast projection
- Fade considerably over time, especially with proper scar care
Horizontal Incisions
Horizontal incisions along the inframammary fold:- Are used in anchor lift technique
- Sit in the natural breast crease where they're largely hidden
- Allow removal of the maximum amount of excess skin
- Are essential for achieving optimal results in severe ptosis cases
Can Breast Lift Be Combined with Implants?
Yes, and this is actually a very common and effective combination. Many women find that whilst a breast lift restores position and firmness, they also desire additional volume that pregnancy, weight loss, or ageing may have taken away.
Breast Lift with Augmentation (Augmentation-Mastopexy)
This combined procedure addresses both sagging and volume loss in a single operation, providing:Enhanced Volume and Fullness
- Restores or increases breast size
- Creates fuller upper pole contour
- Provides more pronounced cleavage
- Adds roundness and projection
- Lifts sagging breasts to youthful position
- Removes excess stretched skin
- Repositions nipples correctly
- Creates balanced, proportionate results
- Combining procedures means one surgery, one recovery
- More cost-effective than staging procedures
- Faster path to your desired results
When to Consider Combining Procedures
You may benefit from combining breast lift with implants if you:
- Have lost breast volume after pregnancy or weight loss
- Want not only lift but also increased size
- Desire fuller upper breast contour
- Have small breasts that have also begun to sag
- Wish to achieve both goals in one surgery
Types of Implants for Combined Procedures
Dr. Persico uses only premium cohesive silicone gel implants from trusted manufacturers including Mentor, Motiva, and Nagor. For combined procedures:Round Implants are often preferred as they:
- Provide excellent upper pole fullness
- Create appealing cleavage
- Offer natural movement
- Work well with lift techniques
- Very natural slope is desired
- Patient has minimal upper pole tissue
- Creating gradual, natural shape is priority
Implant Placement Considerations
For combined lift and augmentation procedures, Dr. Persico most commonly recommends:Dual Plane Placement where the implant sits partially under the pectoralis muscle and partially under the breast tissue. This provides:
- Optimal coverage of the implant
- Natural appearance
- Reduced rippling risk
- Better long-term support
Surgical Approach
When combining breast lift with implants:- Surgery takes approximately 2-3 hours
- Performed under general anaesthesia
- Single hospital stay
- One recovery period (typically similar to lift-only recovery)
- Follow-up schedule encompasses both procedures
What Can I Expect During the Procedure?
Anaesthesia
Breast lift surgery is performed under general anaesthesia in a fully accredited private hospital. Dr. Persico works exclusively with experienced consultant anaesthetists who specialise in aesthetic procedures.Modern anaesthetic techniques ensure you remain completely comfortable throughout the procedure and wake with minimal side effects such as nausea or grogginess. A laryngeal mask is typically sufficient, avoiding the need for full intubation in most cases.

Dr. Persico personally reviews all patients at:
- 10 days post-surgery
- 4 weeks post-surgery
- 3 months post-surgery
- 12 months post-surgery
How Should I Care for My Incisions?
Proper wound care is essential for optimal healing and minimal scarring:
Immediate Post-Operative Care (First 2 Weeks)
- Keep incisions completely dry for the first 10-14 days
- Use sink washing, wet flannels, or wet wipes for personal hygiene
- Do not submerge in baths, showers, or swimming pools
- Keep dressings clean and dry
- Do not remove or adjust dressings unless instructed
- All sutures are dissolvable (no removal needed)
- Attend all scheduled wound check appointments
Weeks 2-6
- Quick showers permitted once cleared by Dr. Persico
- Gently pat incisions dry, do not rub
- Continue wearing surgical support garments as directed
- Avoid direct water pressure on incisions
- No baths or swimming until fully healed
Long-Term Scar Care (After 6 Weeks)
Once incisions are fully healed:- Begin scar massage with recommended products
- Use silicone-based scar treatments for optimal fading
- Protect scars from sun exposure for at least 12 months
- Use high SPF sunscreen on breast area when exposed
- Avoid tanning beds entirely
- Be patient—scars continue improving for 12-18 months
What Are the Risks and Possible Complications?
When post-operative guidance is carefully followed and surgery is performed by an experienced specialist, complications are rare. However, as with any surgical procedure, it's important to understand potential risks.
Early Complications (First 1-2 Weeks)
Haematoma (Blood Collection)- Collection of blood beneath the skin
- More common in the first 24-48 hours
- Small haematomas often reabsorb naturally
- Larger collections may require drainage
- Risk reduced by avoiding certain medications pre-surgery
- Rare with proper antibiotic prophylaxis
- Treated effectively with antibiotics
- Very rarely requires intervention
- Prevented by following wound care instructions
- Clear fluid accumulation in surgical space
- Usually resolves naturally or with drainage
- More common in larger lifts
- Minimised by wearing compression garments
Intermediate Complications (Weeks to Months)
Delayed Wound Healing- More common in smokers or diabetic patients
- Small areas may take longer to heal completely
- Usually resolves with proper wound care
- Rarely affects final cosmetic result
- Temporary changes very common
- Usually resolves within 3-6 months
- Permanent changes rare
- Risk disclosed during consultation
- Some degree of natural asymmetry exists in all women
- Surgery aims to improve but cannot guarantee perfect symmetry
- Minor differences usually settle during healing
- Significant issues can be revised if necessary
Long-Term Considerations
Scarring- All breast lift techniques produce permanent scars
- Scar quality varies based on individual healing
- Most scars fade significantly over 12-18 months
- Proper scar care optimises healing
- Rarely, hypertrophic or keloid scars may develop
- Breasts continue to age naturally after surgery
- Gravity, ageing, and lifestyle affect longevity
- Results typically last 10-15 years or longer
- Future lift may be desired eventually
- Some techniques may affect breastfeeding ability
- Risk discussed thoroughly during consultation
- Many women successfully breastfeed after breast lift
- Individual factors influence outcomes
- Capsular contracture
- Implant malposition
- Implant rupture
- All rare with modern implants and proper technique
How Long Do Breast Lift Results Last?
Breast lift results are long-lasting, but it's important to have realistic expectations about longevity.
Typical Longevity
Most patients enjoy their improved breast contour for 10-15 years or more. Many factors influence how long your results will last:Factors Supporting Long-Term Results:
- Stable body weight
- Good skin quality and elasticity
- Smaller to moderate breast size
- Non-smoker status
- Good post-operative care
- Use of supportive bras
- Healthy lifestyle
- Sun protection
- Significant weight fluctuations
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding after surgery
- Large breast size (more gravitational force)
- Poor skin elasticity
- Smoking
- Significant sun exposure without protection
- Natural ageing processes
What Happens Over Time?
Your breasts will continue to age naturally after surgery. This means:- Some gradual descent may occur over many years
- Skin continues to age and may lose elasticity
- Breast tissue naturally softens with age
- Results remain dramatically better than if surgery hadn't been performed
Can Breast Lift Be Repeated?
Yes, revision breast lift can be performed if desired in the future. Some women choose to have a secondary lift after 10-15 years to maintain their results. The procedure can typically be repeated safely, though each case is assessed individually.
Maintaining Your Results
You can optimise the longevity of your breast lift results by:- Maintaining stable weight
- Wearing supportive bras, especially during exercise
- Protecting breast skin from sun damage
- Not smoking
- Staying well-hydrated
- Maintaining good overall health
- Following all post-operative care instructions
Will Breast Lift Affect Breastfeeding?
This is one of the most common concerns for women considering breast lift, particularly younger patients who may wish to have children in the future.
The Honest Answer
Breast lift may affect your ability to breastfeed, but many women successfully breastfeed after the procedure. The impact depends on:Surgical Technique:
- Crescent and periareolar lifts preserve more milk ducts
- Vertical and anchor lifts involve more tissue manipulation
- Nipple repositioning distance matters
- Individual surgical approach varies
- Your natural breastfeeding capability
- Amount of glandular tissue
- Previous breastfeeding experience
- Breast anatomy and nerve pathways
What Research Shows
Medical literature suggests:- Approximately 50-70% of women can successfully breastfeed after breast lift
- Some may experience reduced milk supply
- Ability to breastfeed varies significantly between individuals
- Prior successful breastfeeding is a positive indicator
Dr. Persico's Approach
When operating on younger patients who desire future pregnancy, Dr. Persico:- Uses techniques that maximise preservation of milk ducts
- Carefully preserves nerves to nipple and areola
- Discusses risks thoroughly before surgery
- Considers whether waiting until after childbearing is preferable
- Provides honest guidance based on your individual circumstances
Important Considerations
If you're planning pregnancy soon:- Consider postponing breast lift until after completing your family
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding can affect breast lift results
- Additional volume changes may occur during pregnancy
- A secondary procedure might be desired after pregnancy

Incision Placement Options
Areola Border Incisions
All breast lift techniques involve incisions around the areola border, allowing for nipple repositioning and areola reduction. These heal very well due to natural colour transition.
Vertical Incisions
Run from bottom of areola to breast crease. Provide access for tissue reshaping, allow removal of excess skin, create natural breast projection. Fade considerably over time.
Horizontal Incisions
Along the inframammary fold, used in anchor lift technique. Sit in natural breast crease where they're largely hidden. Essential for optimal results in severe ptosis cases.
The Procedure
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia in a fully accredited private hospital. Duration: 2-3 hours depending on technique.
Hospital Stay: Day case with private single room, en-suite bathroom, TV and WiFi.
Discharge: Afternoon discharge with complete medications package, surgical support bra, comprehensive instructions, and 24-hour emergency contact.
Recovery Timeline
First 3-5 days: Most discomfort, manageable with prescribed medication. Rest with upper body elevated.
After 10 days: Most patients return to desk work. First wound check with Dr. Persico.
After 4 weeks: Wounds substantially healed. Transition to supportive sports bras. Light exercise permitted.
After 8-12 weeks: Full return to all activities including sports and complete gym routine.
3-6 months: Breasts reach final settled position. Scars continue to fade. Final results visible.
Combining with Other Procedures
Breast Lift with Augmentation
Very common combination addressing both sagging and volume loss. Provides enhanced volume, improved shape and position, and single recovery period.
Dr. Persico uses only premium implants: Mentor, Motiva, and Nagor brands with lifetime warranties.
Other Combinations
Breast lift can be combined with breast reduction, tummy tuck (mommy makeover), or liposuction when appropriate. Dr. Persico assesses safety and suitability during consultation.
Risks & Complications
When post-operative guidance is followed, complications are rare.
Early Complications: Haematoma (blood collection), infection (rare with antibiotics), seroma (fluid collection).
Long-term Considerations: Scarring (all techniques produce permanent scars that fade over time), breast shape changes with natural ageing, potential effects on breastfeeding capability.
Dr. Persico discusses all potential risks in detail during consultation and provides comprehensive consent forms.
